Series of wildfire and structural fire incidents across Cyprus

Between August 13 and August 15, 2026, Cyprus experienced several fire-related incidents across the Paphos and Larnaca districts. On August 13, a wildfire occurred in the Agios Vatzeros area of Marathounta, Paphos, burning six hectares of vegetation and almond trees before being contained at 13:50 by 39 combined personnel from the Forestry Department and Fire Service. A separate wildfire also affected the Konia area, which was contained after emergency mobilization.

On August 15, a structural fire broke out at 03:26 in a Kato Paphos restaurant mezzanine, forcing the evacuation of residents from adjacent apartments; the fire was controlled by 04:49 with no injuries reported. Later that morning, additional wildfires were reported in Kallepia, Paphos, and Alambra, where firefighters successfully prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby residences. Authorities in Alambra confirmed two decares of land were burned, while in Kallepia, 0.4 hectares of grass and irrigation infrastructure were damaged.

Currently, the Forestry Department has declared a 'red alert' status due to high wildfire risks during the August 15 holiday weekend. Official investigations into the causes of all these incidents are ongoing, and the public has been urged to exercise extreme caution to prevent further outbreaks.
