Cyprus state workforce data for July 2026

In July 2026, the state workforce in Cyprus reached 53,747 employees, marking an increase of 300 individuals, or 0.6 percent, compared to the same period in 2025. According to data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat), average employment levels throughout the first seven months of 2026 rose by 0.3 percent compared to the same timeframe last year.

The overall growth was driven by the education sector, which saw a 2.6 percent increase to 16,928 employees, and the security forces, which grew by 0.7 percent to 13,841 personnel. Conversely, the civil service experienced a 1 percent decline, dropping to 22,978 employees. Regarding employment contracts, permanent employees remain the largest group at 32,935, followed by indefinite-duration contracts at 9,509, which recorded the highest growth rate of 1.7 percent. Fixed-term employment also rose by 1.1 percent to 4,578, while hourly paid workers saw a marginal decline of 0.1 percent, reaching 6,725.
