Cyfield secures contract for new university school in Larnaca

The Municipality of Larnaca has awarded the construction contract for the new School of Marine Sciences, Technology and Sustainable Development of the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK) to Cyfield Construction Limited. The project, which was finalized on August 12, 2026, carries a cost of €10,934,000, significantly lower than the initial estimate of €11,950,000. Construction work is scheduled to commence on October 1, 2026, with an 18-month completion timeline. The cornerstone ceremony is planned for October 30, 2026, with President Nikos Christodoulides expected to preside.

Located near the old Larnaca airport behind the Mackenzie beach parking area, the school marks the first public university facility in the city. The institution is expected to open its doors in autumn 2028, with an initial intake of 70 undergraduates, eventually reaching a capacity of approximately 500 students. While the university prepares for operations, there is currently a discrepancy regarding student housing; Education Minister Athena Michaelidou stated that no plans for public dormitories exist in the current project, whereas TEPAK Rector Panagiotis Zafiris claims that procedures for such facilities are ongoing.
