Customs authorities seize 245 kilograms of illegal bovine products at Agios Dometios

On the evening of August 12, 2026, customs officials at the Agios Dometios crossing point intercepted a vehicle registered in the Republic of Cyprus driven by a foreign national. During a standard inspection conducted under the Green Line Regulation, authorities discovered 245 kilograms of bovine skins and offal stored in the vehicle. The transport of such animal products from the occupied areas to the free areas of the Republic of Cyprus is strictly prohibited under current regulations.

Following the discovery, officials confiscated both the illicit cargo and the vehicle used for the transport. The driver was arrested and held in custody for the duration of the investigation. By the following day, August 13, the individual was released after paying a 2,000 euro administrative fine imposed by the Veterinary Services, along with an additional 500 euro fee to the Customs Department for the retrieval of the vehicle. The seized animal products are scheduled for destruction according to established health and safety procedures.
