Wildfire causes evacuations in Siviri and Fourka, Halkidiki

A significant wildfire broke out on August 13, 2026, around 14:00 in the Siviri area of Halkidiki, Greece, amidst high-risk weather conditions. The fire, burning through pine forests, has prompted authorities to issue emergency alerts via the 112 system. Residents and tourists in Siviri were ordered to relocate toward Mola Kalyva, while an additional evacuation order was issued for the settlement of Fourka, with residents directed toward Skioni.

The firefighting operation involves a large-scale deployment of 122 firefighters, 33 vehicles, 6 aircraft, and 2 helicopters, supported by the Municipality of Kassandra's water tankers. The force includes 12 Moldovan firefighters with three vehicles participating in an EU pre-positioning program. While initial reports highlighted the blaze in Siviri, subsequent updates confirmed the fire is spreading, affecting residential properties in the region. The area was previously designated at risk level 4 for fire danger.

Greece is currently facing multiple simultaneous fire fronts in locations including Nafpaktia, Ilia, and Aitoloakarnania. The state mechanism remains on high alert, with meteorological forecasts warning of extreme category 5 fire danger for Friday in Attica, Central Greece, and the Peloponnese.
