Luxury yacht sinks off the coast of Sardinia

A 30-meter luxury yacht named Angiola II, valued at over 8 million euros, sank off the coast of Porto Cervo, Sardinia, on the evening of Tuesday, August 12, 2026. The incident occurred just four days after the vessel was officially delivered to its new Italian owner following an extensive renovation. The sinking took place between the island of Capuccini and Capo Ferro.

There were 14 people on board when the vessel began taking on water. While 12 individuals were rescued by a nearby craft, the exact circumstances remain under investigation. According to Italian media reports, the vessel may have lost buoyancy after a reported engine failure caused a fire in the seals, leading to flooding. However, official authorities have not yet confirmed the precise cause of the water ingress or the subsequent sinking. The yacht was captured on video tilting to one side before disappearing beneath the sea as onlookers watched from nearby vessels.
