Turkey plans regional electricity corridor from Saudi Arabia

Turkey has announced plans to develop a new regional electricity corridor aimed at transporting power from Saudi Arabia to Turkey via Jordan and Syria. According to the Turkish newspaper Turkiye, the project seeks to establish a major energy link connecting the Persian Gulf, the Eastern Mediterranean, and Turkey, reinforcing the latter's position as a regional energy hub. Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, stated that the network is part of a large-scale project and suggested that Lebanon could be integrated into the infrastructure in the future to address its growing energy needs.

This initiative builds upon Turkey's existing energy strategy, which utilizes LNG infrastructure, storage facilities, and international pipelines. Turkey has already been supplying electricity to parts of northern Syria since 2017. By expanding this network, Ankara intends to further consolidate its role in regional energy trade and enhance its electrical interconnections with neighboring states.
