Albert Riera appointed as new head coach of Red Star Belgrade

On August 13, 2026, Spanish coach Albert Riera was officially confirmed as the new head coach of Red Star Belgrade. Fabrizio Romano reported that the former Liverpool and Olympiacos player has signed his contract, finalized with the assistance of agent Andy Bara from the Niagara agency.

Riera, 44, replaces Dejan Stankovic, who resigned following the club's elimination from the UEFA Champions League after a second defeat against Hapoel Be'er Sheva. This appointment marks the fifth coaching role in Riera's career. He previously managed Olimpija Ljubljana, Celje, and Bordeaux, before a brief three-month tenure at Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, which concluded in May 2026.

Following his departure from Germany earlier this year, Riera now takes over the Belgrade club as they reorganize after their European exit. He is expected to begin his duties immediately to stabilize the team's performance following the recent coaching vacancy.
