FIFA president faces internal crisis following failed investment proposal

FIFA President Gianni Infantino is currently facing a significant institutional crisis, as major confederations, including UEFA, AFC, and CONCACAF, demand an independent investigation into his actions. The controversy stems from Infantino’s unilateral proposal to sell 20% of the World Cup’s commercial rights to private investors in an effort to raise approximately 4.2 billion dollars. While this specific plan was rejected, the lack of consultation with stakeholders has severely undermined his leadership position.

In response to the mounting pressure, six Arab football federations, including those of Qatar and Morocco, have issued a joint statement expressing their full support for Infantino. Conversely, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin is actively lobbying for Infantino’s removal, having discussed the matter with PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi. UEFA is now seeking accountability regarding the 'FIFA Forward Enterprise' initiative and is reportedly pushing for Infantino's immediate resignation and his exclusion from future presidential elections.

Despite the pushback, some of Infantino’s allies are reportedly attempting to revive the private investment strategy to reshape FIFA's economic structure. The organization remains in a state of high volatility as factions debate the future of global football governance and the tenure of its current leadership.
