James Penrice set for move from AEK Athens to Rangers
AEK Athens and Rangers have reached an agreement regarding the transfer of left-back James Penrice. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the deal involves a season-long loan with an option for the Scottish club to purchase the player permanently. Penrice is scheduled to undergo medical examinations this Friday to finalize the move.
The transfer represents a shift in strategy for AEK, which had previously expressed no intention of letting the Scottish defender leave on loan. The club had acquired Penrice from Hearts last year for approximately 1.7 million euros and initially planned to retain him as part of their rotation of two left-backs. Conflicting reports exist regarding the player's destination; while Romano indicates he is moving to Rangers, another source, Reporter, claims the player is joining AEK Larnaca. As of now, the player is expected to join his new squad following the completion of his medicals.
