Olympiacos targets midfield reinforcements with Puerta and Amrabat
Olympiacos is currently intensifying efforts to strengthen its midfield following their elimination from the Champions League. As of mid-August 2026, the club has identified 23-year-old Colombian midfielder Gustavo Puerta as a primary target. Negotiations regarding Puerta have become more frequent in recent days, despite reported interest from Benfica and the significant financial commitment required, as the player's value exceeds 10 million euros.
Simultaneously, the club remains interested in Sofyan Amrabat. Olympiacos had previously engaged in discussions regarding the Moroccan international during his World Cup campaign, but negotiations stalled. While Real Betis, where Amrabat spent the previous season on loan from Fenerbahçe, appeared to be the frontrunner, the transfer has not been finalized. Olympiacos is now reportedly back in contention for the player, though they face potential competition from clubs in Saudi Arabia. The Greek side is closely monitoring the situation as they seek to solidify their squad for the remainder of the season.
