Victim of 2025 Vrysoulles incident passes away, charges against attacker remain unchanged

A 62-year-old man, identified as Giorgos Georgiou, passed away on August 12, 2026, following a year-long struggle with injuries sustained during a violent incident in Vrysoulles. On August 8, 2025, the victim was severely injured after a 48-year-old colleague allegedly struck him with a vehicle following a heated verbal altercation at an egg packaging facility where both were employed. The victim suffered a skull fracture and brain hemorrhage, remaining under medical care until his death.

Legal authorities have confirmed that the attempted murder charges against the 48-year-old perpetrator will not be upgraded to murder. According to the Penal Code, a death must occur within one year and one day of the original criminal act to qualify as homicide. Since the victim died four days beyond this legal threshold, the indictment remains unchanged. The defendant, who previously surrendered to authorities, had been released with conditions due to health issues and is awaiting trial at the Permanent Assize Court of Famagusta. A post-mortem examination is pending to determine the exact cause of death, while the funeral is scheduled for August 14, 2026.
