Cypriot public hospitals on high alert for August 15 holiday

Cypriot public hospitals and the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY) ambulance services are currently operating on high alert ahead of the August 15 holiday. Charalambos Charilaou, the spokesperson for OKYPY, confirmed that necessary planning, medical expertise, and resources are in place to handle any emergencies that may arise during the holiday period.

The health services are experiencing increased patient traffic and hospital admissions due to sustained high temperatures across the country. Medical teams are responding to a variety of heat-related incidents, including thermal stress, minor accidents, and severe sunburns. Charilaou emphasized that the General Health System has the capacity to manage the influx of patients, noting that all departments remain fully staffed with the required doctors and support personnel to ensure round-the-clock coverage for unexpected medical needs.
