Public hospitals and ambulance services on high alert for the Assumption holiday

Charalambos Charilaou, the spokesperson for the organization, stated that the necessary planning, staff experience, and technical expertise are in place to manage any emergency situations that may arise.

Recent data from OKYPY indicates an increase in traffic within emergency departments, largely attributed to the severe heatwave currently affecting the region. Medical staff are frequently treating patients for heat exhaustion, minor accidents, and sunburn, while also reporting a rise in hospital admissions. Despite the increased pressure on the system, officials confirmed that all departments remain fully staffed with doctors and support personnel to ensure consistent care throughout the holiday period.

The health services remain prepared to handle any surge in demand through the existing General Healthcare System. The current high level of readiness is a standard contingency measure implemented during the summer months to mitigate risks associated with increased activity and extreme weather conditions.
