Anorthosis football club seeks to overturn FIFA transfer ban

The new management of Anorthosis Famagusta, led by president Christos Maragos, is actively seeking to lift a FIFA-imposed transfer ban currently effective until the summer of 2027. Despite the existence of a final decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the club administration is exploring all legal avenues to reduce the penalty and potentially enable participation in the January transfer window.

To strengthen their appeal, the club has initiated a strategy centered on settling past financial obligations. Management plans to pay approximately one million euros in outstanding debts to demonstrate a commitment to fiscal responsibility and administrative reform. Christos Maragos has traveled to England to consult with specialized sports lawyers, aiming to leverage these improvements to convince football authorities that the sanctions should be reconsidered.

While the administration acknowledges that reversing a definitive CAS ruling is an extremely challenging task with low success probability, they remain determined to exhaust every available legal option. The effort represents a significant attempt by the new leadership to resolve long-standing institutional issues that have hindered the club's performance in recent years.
