Jared Kushner leads diplomatic efforts to advance U.S. peace plan for Gaza

U.S. presidential envoy Jared Kushner, accompanied by Peace Council representative Nickolay Mladenov, is conducting a diplomatic mission in Egypt and Israel to salvage the U.S.-backed 15-point roadmap for the Gaza Strip. The initiative follows Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s public rejection of the plan on August 9, which called for the disarmament of Hamas and a gradual Israeli withdrawal from the territory.

In El Alamein, Kushner met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to discuss ceasefire implementation, while Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya simultaneously held talks with Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad. Although Hamas has expressed support for the U.S. plan, Israel maintains that the disarmament of the group is a non-negotiable prerequisite for any troop withdrawal. Kushner is expected to continue his efforts in Israel this week to bridge the significant gaps between the parties, despite the political tensions surrounding upcoming Israeli elections scheduled for October 27.
