AKEL MP reports dire living conditions of grandmother and grandson in Limassol
AKEL Member of Parliament Argentoula Ioannou has publicly denounced the destitute living conditions of an elderly woman and her grandson in Limassol. The family, who were evicted from their home following a bank foreclosure, has been residing in an unsuitable shipping container on a plot of land for months.
According to Ioannou, the pair lacks basic necessities, including access to running water, electricity, a refrigerator, and beds, forcing them to sleep in their car. The MP stated that relevant state services were notified of this humanitarian crisis last Thursday, yet no intervention has been taken to date. Ioannou criticized the Ministry of Social Welfare for its failure to act, labeling the situation a total abandonment by the social state. She has issued an open invitation to the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare to visit the site to witness the conditions firsthand.
This incident follows reports that the family has been waiting for state assistance since last year. Ioannou, who accompanied her social media report with video footage, continues to urge the government to provide immediate support to the vulnerable citizens.
