Police conduct nationwide security operations resulting in multiple arrests

During the night of August 14-15, 2026, the Cyprus Police executed a series of targeted preventive operations across the country to combat crime, juvenile delinquency, and ensure public order. Officers intercepted 586 vehicles, checked 863 people, and inspected 46 commercial establishments. These actions resulted in eight arrests for diverse offenses, including assault, burglary, theft, illegal residence, and traffic violations. Furthermore, traffic enforcement led to 236 citations and the impounding of 22 vehicles, with 16 cases involving drink-driving and one involving narcotics.

Separately, in Limassol, a coordinated operation led to six arrests, including a game warden caught with a knife and a gas-emitting device. In Nicosia, a 21-year-old was arrested after police found 40 grams of cannabis in his moped, followed by the seizure of an additional 50 grams of cannabis and €8,800 in cash during house searches. The Nicosia District Court subsequently ordered his three-day detention. Meanwhile, in Larnaca, a 66-year-old was arrested in the act of burglarizing a house. Law enforcement agencies continue their investigations into these various criminal cases.
