Public service adjustments and holiday celebrations in Cyprus for August 15
On August 15, 2026, Cyprus observes the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, a major public holiday. Municipal offices in Nicosia and Limassol will be closed. In Nicosia, the St. Antonios Municipal Market, the OXI market, and the Wholesale Market are shut, with St. Antonios scheduled to reopen on August 20. Waste collection services will continue as normal in both cities, though temporary Green Points in Nicosia are closed. The Limassol open-air market on Georgiou Thyrotou street will also be closed on Saturday.
Alongside the closures, the day is marked by various cultural events across the island. Celebrations include the Hazelnut Dance in Polystypos and a retro-themed music event in Kato Drys featuring Konstantinos Christoforou and ONE. Additionally, a concert with Giorgos Margaritis and Kelly Kelekidou will take place at the St. John Pitsilias elementary school stadium. Tickets are priced at €15 for presale and €20 at the door, with free entry for children under 12.
