Cyprus celebrates the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

On August 15, Cyprus observed the Feast of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, widely referred to as the "Easter of the Summer." Worshippers from across the island gathered at major religious sites, including the Panayia Chrysorroyiatissa Monastery in the village of Panayia and the Ayios Neophytos Monastery in the Paphos district. The events were marked by religious services, pilgrimages, and the fulfillment of personal vows to the Virgin Mary.

Bishop Pankratios of Arsinoe, the abbot of the Chrysorroyiatissa Monastery, presided over the Divine Liturgy and the Vespers. In his sermons, he emphasized the importance of humility in the spiritual life and the significance of the feast as a testament to the Christian belief in the victory of life over death. In addition to the solemn religious observations, the occasion continues a long-standing tradition of local festivals, where music, dance, and communal meals celebrate the cultural heritage of the Paphos region.
