Recent road accidents and weather-related traffic warnings in Cyprus
Several road incidents occurred in Cyprus between August 15 and 17, 2026, alongside weather-related traffic warnings. On August 15, a collision occurred on the Nicosia-Limassol motorway near Moni shortly before 11:00 a.m., temporarily closing the left lane. Two individuals were taken to the hospital as a precaution, and the road was reopened by 11:25 a.m. On the following days, heavy rainfall significantly affected road conditions, particularly on the same motorway in areas such as Pera Chorio Nisou, Kornos, and Kofinou, leading to reports of slippery surfaces and limited visibility.
On the evening of August 16, a separate accident involving two vehicles took place in Lakatamia, Nicosia district. The fire service received the call at 8:42 p.m. and performed a rescue operation to extricate a trapped female driver. She was placed on a rescue board and transported by ambulance to the Accident and Emergency Department of Nicosia General Hospital for medical care. While most road issues have been cleared, authorities continue to monitor weather conditions and investigate the causes of the collision in Lakatamia.
