Road accidents and weather alerts in Cyprus
Recent days in Cyprus were marked by multiple traffic incidents and severe weather conditions. On August 15, a vehicle crash near Moni on the Nicosia-Limassol motorway caused temporary lane closures and the hospitalization of two individuals for precautionary checks. Shortly after, the left lane was reopened following cleaning operations by the Fire Service and police. Subsequently, on August 16, heavy rainfall hit the same motorway, leading to slippery road surfaces and reduced visibility, prompting police to issue safety warnings for motorists traveling toward Limassol and Troodos.
Separately, a more severe accident occurred on the night of August 16 in Lakatamia, Nicosia, where two vehicles collided. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at approximately 20:42 to perform a rescue operation. They successfully extricated a female driver trapped in her car using a rescue board. The victim was transported to the Accident and Emergency Department of the Nicosia General Hospital. Local police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to this collision.
