Giannis Konstantelias set to join Borussia Dortmund from PAOK

Borussia Dortmund has reached an agreement to sign 23-year-old midfielder Giannis Konstantelias from Greek club PAOK. The deal follows Dortmund’s unsuccessful attempt to acquire Said El Mala from FC Köln for over 55 million euros, prompting the German club to shift its focus toward the Greek international. Dortmund official David Blaha scouted the player personally during a recent match between PAOK and Anderlecht in Brussels.

Financial reports regarding the transfer vary slightly, with sources indicating a total package worth between 28 million and 30 million euros, including potential performance-based bonuses. The player is expected to earn approximately 3 million to 3.2 million euros annually. Konstantelias traveled to Germany on August 16, 2026, to undergo medical examinations and finalize the contract. This move follows a period of intense negotiations between the two clubs and the player's representatives.

Konstantelias, a product of the PAOK academy, recorded 44 goals and 26 assists in 190 appearances for the club, winning both a league title and a cup during his tenure. The transfer is considered a major development for the Greek side, especially following their exclusion from the UEFA Europa League, which impacted their finances by approximately 7 million euros.
