Former Greek minister Stefanos Manos dies at 87

Stefanos Manos, a prominent Greek politician and former government minister, passed away at the age of 87 following a period of declining health. Born in Athens in December 1939, he built a political career spanning over three decades, having served as Minister of Environment, National Economy, and Finance under New Democracy governments. His death was confirmed by his close associate, Aristotelis Aivaliotis.

Throughout his tenure, Manos was involved in major infrastructure projects, including the Athens Metro, the Athens International Airport at Spata, and the Attiki Odos motorway. He was also known for his urban planning interventions in Athens, such as the pedestrianization of Plaka. An engineer by training, he studied at the Zurich Polytechnic and Harvard University. He entered politics in 1977 as a Member of Parliament for Athens B with New Democracy. Manos was also the founder of the Liberal party and co-founder of the Dassi movement. He is survived by his wife and five children.
