Water accident involving jet ski and inflatable in Protaras

A serious water sports accident occurred on August 15, 2026, around 12:00 local time in the Protaras area near Pernera. A jet ski operated by a 17-year-old girl collided with a towed inflatable water toy carrying a family of five. Local authorities, who arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation, reported that the collision resulted in injuries to two passengers on the inflatable device.

The injured individuals are a 48-year-old man and a seven-year-old girl. The child was transported to Makarios Hospital with a pelvic fracture, and her condition is reported as serious but stable, posing no immediate threat to her life. The man was taken to the Famagusta General Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. All individuals involved are Cypriot citizens.
