Cypriot athletes compete at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham

The 27th European Athletics Championships in Birmingham saw significant participation from Cyprus on August 15, 2026. Long jumper Philippa Fotopoulou initially faced disappointment after finishing 13th in the qualifiers, missing the final by a single point. However, a late reversal allowed her to secure a spot, marking her third consecutive appearance in a European championship final. During the final, she achieved a distance of 6.67 meters, ultimately placing 8th among the top European athletes.

Meanwhile, high jumper Elena Kulichenko reached her first European Championship final. She finished in 10th place with a top mark of 1.88 meters, struggling to clear 1.92 meters after experiencing delays between attempts due to the event conditions. This performance concluded a series of entries for the Cypriot team, which also included appearances by Miltiadis Tentoglou and Iosif Kessidis in other events.
