Filippa Fotopoulou eliminated from long jump final at European Athletics Championships
On August 15, 2026, the sixth day of the 27th European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, United Kingdom, saw Cypriot athlete Filippa Fotopoulou compete in the women's long jump qualifiers. Despite achieving a strong opening jump of 6.60 meters with a tailwind of +2.3 m/s, she finished in 13th place overall across both qualification groups.
This result marks the first time in her career that Fotopoulou has failed to reach the final of a European Championship, missing the top-12 qualification cutoff by a single centimeter. The athlete, who recently returned to Cyprus from Guadalajara, Spain, to train under Kyriakos Antoniou, had previously reached the final in her two prior appearances in this event.
Following her elimination, the focus for the Cypriot team at the Birmingham Alexander Stadium shifts to Elena Kulichenko, who is scheduled to compete in the women's high jump final later in the evening.
