Remo Freuler arrives in Athens to finalize transfer to Olympiacos
Olympiacos is in the final stages of acquiring 34-year-old Swiss midfielder Remo Freuler. Following his departure from Bologna as a free agent, the player traveled to Athens to finalize the deal, according to reports from August 15 and 16, 2026. The move aims to bolster the midfield for manager Jose Luis Mendilibar ahead of the upcoming season.
Freuler brings significant experience to the Greek side, having played over 300 matches in the Italian championship with 21 goals and 21 assists. During the 2025-2026 season with Bologna, he made 40 appearances across all competitions, including 29 league games, 10 in the Europa League, and one in the Coppa Italia. Additionally, he was a key figure for the Swiss national team at the recent World Cup, where he started in all six of their matches.
The negotiations between Olympiacos and the player are in their final phase. Following his arrival in Athens, the club is expected to complete the necessary medical examinations and contract signings to officially integrate him into the squad.
