Woman drowns at CTO beach in Larnaca, children hospitalized

A tragic drowning incident occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the CTO beach in Larnaca. A European mother lost her life while swimming in the sea with her two young children, a girl and a boy. While the father was present on the shore, the family members encountered difficulties in the water due to rough sea conditions around 18:30.

Other bathers witnessed the incident and managed to pull the mother and her children to safety. Despite these efforts, the woman was pronounced dead. The two children were subsequently transported to Makarios Hospital for urgent care, with one of them reported to be in serious condition.
