Fatal flooding and storm damage strike Indiana

Severe storms and historic flooding have devastated the state of Indiana since August 11, resulting in at least five deaths. Governor Mike Braun confirmed that the extreme weather events, which included cyclonic activity and a derecho, forced the mass evacuation of hundreds of residents and prompted rescue operations for dozens of others trapped by rising floodwaters.

In response to the crisis, Governor Braun announced that the state is utilizing its own reserve funds to address the damage. Furthermore, he formally requested federal assistance and urged President Donald Trump to declare a state of emergency. According to the Indianapolis Star, President Trump has approved the request, enabling federal resources to be deployed to assist with recovery efforts in the affected areas.
