The 4th Goat and Sheep Milk Festival held in Drouseia

The 4th Goat and Sheep Milk Festival recently took place in the village of Drouseia, serving as a key event for the Akamas and Paphos regions. The festival focused on celebrating Cypriot rural traditions and the daily dedication of local livestock breeders who work regardless of difficult weather or working conditions.

Panikos Kaponas, the Provincial Secretary of the Panagrotikos Association and president of local goat and sheep breeders, utilized the event to emphasize the importance of the industry. He highlighted that the production of high-quality milk is essential for the sustainability of Cyprus's broader dairy industry, specifically for the production of halloumi and other traditional products. Kaponas expressed that the sector is currently facing significant challenges and argued that the government must provide greater support to ensure its survival.

The festival aims to increase public recognition of the essential role that livestock farming plays in the Cypriot economy and cultural heritage. By bringing the community together, the organizers seek to promote the value of the countryside and secure the future of the profession for the next generation.
