Dimitris Starovas visits Panagia Hozoviotissa monastery in Amorgos

Greek artist Dimitris Starovas successfully completed a hike to the historic Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa on the island of Amorgos on August 15, 2026. The 63-year-old musician shared his experience on social media, noting that the site held personal significance as he had attempted, but failed, to reach the sanctuary during previous visits to the island at the ages of 20 and 30.

The monastery is known for its challenging, steep ascent, which has been a recurring obstacle for many visitors. By reaching the summit this summer, Starovas described the event as a long-awaited personal milestone. Through his public post, the artist encouraged others, emphasizing the message that "it is never too late" to achieve personal goals. His announcement coincided with the celebration of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, a major religious holiday in Greece.
