Severe storm causes infrastructure damage in Trikomo
On Sunday, August 16, 2026, a severe storm accompanied by strong winds struck the Trikomo region, causing significant infrastructure damage and safety concerns, particularly in the villages of Ayios Iakovos and Arnadi. The local administration reported that the wind damaged the building of the Ayios Iakovos hunting club.
In Arnadi, the storm brought down electricity poles, which sparked a small fire that was quickly extinguished by local fire crews. During these emergency operations, a main water pipe was accidentally ruptured, leading to a temporary water supply disruption for the community. As a precaution, local authorities ordered the evacuation of coastal areas and advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel.
Repair crews remain active in the area to restore utility services and conduct a full assessment of the damages. The extreme weather event coincides with a broader period of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms impacting Cyprus.
