Europe's tallest religious statue unveiled in Poland

A 55.6-meter statue of the Virgin Mary was officially inaugurated on August 15 in the village of Konotopie, Poland. The structure, which is now considered the tallest religious statue in Europe, consists of a 40-meter figure standing atop a 15-meter crown-shaped base. It also features an integrated panoramic observation deck for visitors.

The project was privately funded by entrepreneur Roman Karkosik and his wife, Grazyna, as an act of gratitude to the Virgin Mary. The unveiling ceremony took place on the Feast of the Assumption and was officiated by Krzysztof Wedkowski, Bishop of the Diocese of Wloclawek. The event began with prayers and a Eucharistic celebration, followed by the blessing of the monument by the Bishop in the presence of Grazyna Karkosik.

Located in a small village of only 130 inhabitants, the statue is intended to transform the area into a significant site for Catholic pilgrimage. The local community expects the landmark to bolster religious tourism, marking a notable addition to the national landscape.
