Cyprus police intensify operations leading to multiple drug-related arrests
Cypriot law enforcement authorities have significantly intensified targeted operations across the country to combat drug trafficking and ensure public safety. Since the beginning of 2026, the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) has seized 323 kilograms of cannabis and 81 kilograms of cocaine. These efforts include widespread patrols and specialized investigations in major districts including Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Ayia Napa, and Paphos.
Recent operations on August 17 and 18 resulted in several high-profile arrests. In Nicosia, a 33-year-old man was arrested following the discovery of over two kilograms of cannabis and 266 grams of cocaine at his residence; the Nicosia District Court subsequently ordered him to be held in custody for eight days. Simultaneously, a 21-year-old was apprehended in Limassol after police discovered 46 grams of cannabis, cocaine, €1,850 in cash, and drug paraphernalia during a vehicle stop. Additionally, in the Larnaca district, a 20-year-old was arrested in connection with a drug possession case from August 13.
Police continue to conduct daily checks on entertainment venues and traffic violations to maintain public order. The authorities confirmed that investigations into these cases remain ongoing, with further intelligence-led operations expected to continue as part of a broader, year-long strategy to suppress criminal activity across both urban and mountainous regions.
