Lifeguards perform multiple rescues in Limassol
Lifeguards in Limassol successfully executed two separate rescue operations during August 2026. On August 15, at 17:30, a 25-year-old man from Nepal and his wife were rescued in the LEM 0 lifeguard area near the local zoo. The man, a weak swimmer, had attempted to return to shore from rocks when he began to sink and grabbed his wife in a panic. Lifeguards intervened with a rescue board, while nearby citizens also assisted. The man required no hospital treatment.
A second incident occurred on the morning of August 19, when a 24-year-old foreign visitor required assistance in the LEM 15 area, opposite the GSZ stadium. The swimmer began struggling while attempting to reach rocks and was rescued by lifeguards using a jet ski, with help from a fellow swimmer. The man was unharmed and required no further medical care. These events follow recent public discussions regarding the importance of lifeguard staffing hours across Cyprus, particularly in light of a separate fatal incident that occurred elsewhere on the island after duty hours.
