Lifeguards rescue a couple from Nepal off Limassol beach

On the afternoon of August 15, 2026, at approximately 17:30, a 25-year-old man from Nepal and his wife were rescued from drowning in the LEM 0 sea area opposite the Limassol Zoo. The man, who lacked strong swimming skills, had attempted to return to shore from nearby rocks but became exhausted and began to sink. In a state of panic, he grabbed his wife, placing both individuals in immediate danger.

Lifeguards stationed at LEM 0, who had previously identified the man as a vulnerable swimmer in a risky area, intervened immediately using a rescue board. Bystanders located about 20 meters away also provided assistance. Following the rescue, the lifeguards examined the man and confirmed that he did not require further medical treatment or hospital transport. The nearby LEM 15 station was also alerted to assist if necessary.

This incident occurred amidst broader discussions regarding the adequacy of lifeguard coverage across Cyprus.
