Lifeguards rescue couple near Limassol zoo
On the afternoon of August 15, 2026, lifeguards at the LEM 0 beach station in Limassol, located across from the local zoo, performed a rescue operation for a 25-year-old man from Nepal and his wife. The man, who had limited swimming ability, encountered difficulty while attempting to return to shore from rocky terrain. As he began to submerge, he panicked and grabbed his wife, placing both individuals in immediate danger of drowning.
Lifeguards at the scene had already identified the man as a weak swimmer in a hazardous area. They responded immediately using a rescue board, while bystanders located approximately 20 meters away also rushed to assist. The Limassol Lifeguard Unit also mobilized the nearby LEM 15 station, which is equipped with a jet ski, to support the operation. Thanks to the prompt coordinated intervention of professional rescuers and civilians, the couple was brought to safety without further injury. The incident highlights the risks associated with swimming in rocky coastal areas without adequate experience.
