Lifeguards rescue man and wife from drowning in Limassol
On the afternoon of August 15, 2026, lifeguards in Limassol successfully intervened to prevent a potential double drowning in the LEM 0 sea area, located opposite the city's zoo. A 25-year-old man from Nepal, who was identified by patrolling personnel as a weak swimmer, got into difficulty while attempting to return to the shore from some rocks. As he began to sink, he reportedly panicked and grabbed onto his wife, placing both individuals in immediate danger.
Lifeguards acted immediately, deploying a rescue board to reach the couple. Several citizens, positioned approximately 20 meters away, also rushed to assist in the operation. Additionally, the neighboring LEM 15 lifeguard station, which is equipped with a jet ski, was notified as a precautionary measure. Once the couple was brought safely to shore, the 25-year-old was examined by lifeguards and provided with first aid. It was determined that he did not require further medical attention or hospitalization. The Limassol Lifeguard Unit emphasized that the coordinated response of both professional rescuers and bystanders was essential in preventing a potential tragedy.
