Mexican fisherman survives 15 days trapped in underwater cave
A 31-year-old fisherman named Erasto Crisanto Valdez has been rescued after surviving for 15 days trapped in an underwater cave in the San Francisco La Paz region of Mexico. Valdez disappeared on July 23 while fishing with his father. He became stranded deep inside a natural sinkhole approximately 100 meters below the surface, leading to an extensive search and rescue operation.
Initially, search teams were unable to locate him and had reached the conclusion that he had perished, preparing to transition from a rescue mission to a body recovery effort. However, an international team comprising experts from Mexico, Germany, the United States, and the Dominican Republic ultimately discovered him alive. Valdez managed to survive by locating a small air pocket within the cave, enduring 15 days in dark, cold, and humid conditions without access to food.
Following his discovery, the fisherman was brought to safety by the rescue team. His survival has been widely described by authorities and international media as a miraculous outcome, considering the extreme physical challenges and the duration of his confinement. No further details regarding his current health condition were provided in the initial reports.
