Unstable weather forecast for Cyprus through mid-week
The Department of Meteorology of Cyprus has issued a weather warning as seasonal low pressure and an unstable air mass currently affect the island. On August 17, 2026, the forecast predicts locally increased cloud cover developing from midday, leading to scattered rain and isolated thunderstorms. These conditions are expected to primarily impact mountainous regions, the interior of the country, and parts of the southeast, with a possibility of hail during storm events.
Temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 34°C inland, 30°C on the western and southwestern coasts, and 32°C in other coastal areas. Winds will transition from light to moderate, reaching 4 to 5 Beaufort along the coast by the afternoon. Sea conditions, initially calm or slightly rough, are expected to become generally slightly rough later in the day.
This unstable weather pattern is projected to persist through Tuesday and Wednesday. Meteorological services indicate that conditions will gradually improve starting Thursday, accompanied by a forecasted rise in temperatures across the island.
