Cyprus youth demographics and economic indicators report 2026
On the occasion of World Youth Day on August 12, 2026, the Statistical Service of Cyprus released data regarding individuals aged 15 to 29, who constitute approximately 17% of the nation's total population. The report highlights that young people in Cyprus remain in their parental homes until the average age of 27.0 years.
Economic indicators show a positive trend in the labor market, with 55.2% of the youth population employed, surpassing the European Union average of 49.1%. Youth unemployment has seen a notable decline, dropping from 24.5% in 2015 to 9.3% in 2025. Educational and digital engagement remain high, as 30.6% of youth possess higher education qualifications, and 27.4% participated in online courses in 2025. Additionally, 21% of young people demonstrate above-basic digital skills.
Furthermore, the report notes that social media usage among youth in Cyprus is the highest in the European Union, reaching 99.3%. Despite various challenges, young people report high levels of overall life satisfaction.
