President of the Cyprus Lifesaving Federation: It is a crime to close lifeguard towers at 18:00

Following a recent drowning incident in Larnaca, the president of the Cyprus Lifesaving Federation, Polys Pallikaros, stated that closing lifeguard towers at 18:00 is a grave mistake. He argued that during the peak months of July, August, and September, lifeguard services should operate from sunrise to sunset, prioritizing human safety over costs. Pallikaros also highlighted the issue of seasonal recruitment, noting that the short three-to-four-month contracts hinder the hiring of qualified personnel, and urged for extended eight-month contracts.
