Eighteen-year-old arrested in Ayia Napa for assaulting police officer

On the night of Sunday, August 16, 2026, police in Ayia Napa arrested an 18-year-old Greek-Cypriot woman following a confrontation. The incident occurred around 22:45, while officers from the Famagusta Police Division were conducting traffic management duties. Police requested that a driver move their vehicle, at which point the suspect approached the officers and began shouting and using abusive language.

When a female police officer attempted to take the suspect into custody, the teenager allegedly physically attacked the officer and resisted arrest. Following the altercation, the suspect was transported to the local police station. Authorities formally charged her in writing before releasing her pending further legal proceedings. The 18-year-old is expected to appear in court at a later date to answer to charges related to the attack, verbal abuse, and resisting arrest.
