Woman arrested in Ayia Napa following police altercation

Police in Ayia Napa arrested a young woman on the night of Sunday, August 16, 2026, following an incident involving traffic regulation. Officers from the Famagusta Police Division were managing traffic around 22:45–22:50 when they instructed a driver to move their vehicle. Shortly thereafter, a woman approached the officers, began shouting, and used abusive language against them.

Reports regarding the suspect's age are inconsistent: OmegaLive and Typos identify the suspect as an 18-year-old, while Philenews reports her age as 19. During the attempt to place her under arrest, the suspect reportedly resisted and assaulted a female police officer. She was subsequently transported to the local police station.

Following her arrival at the station, the woman was charged in writing with offenses including assaulting a police officer, resisting lawful arrest, verbal abuse, and public disturbance. She has since been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
