MEP Loukas Fourlas requests intervention against Nexus music festival in Kyrenia

Cypriot MEP Loukas Fourlas has formally requested that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic intervene to cancel the 'Nexus' electronic music festival, which is organized by the Serbian company EXIT Festival and scheduled for September 18, 2026, at Kyrenia Castle. Fourlas, who chairs the European Parliament's delegation to the EU-Serbia Parliamentary Stabilization and Association Committee, argues that the event is being held in collaboration with illegal entities in the Turkish-occupied north of Cyprus.

In his letter to President Vucic, Fourlas emphasized that Kyrenia remains an integral part of the Republic of Cyprus and that its historic castle is a site of immense cultural significance. He warned that hosting such a large-scale event there risks indirectly legitimizing and normalizing the status quo in the occupied territories. While acknowledging that Cyprus supports cultural exchange, the MEP stressed that art should not be utilized as a tool for political recognition. As of now, there has been no official response from the Serbian government regarding the request for the cancellation of the event.
