Nicosia district response team rescues kitten during heavy rain in Idalion

On Sunday, August 16, 2026, during a period of heavy rainfall in the Idalion area of Nicosia, three emergency response teams from the Nicosia District Organisation (EOA) were deployed to address storm drain blockages and clear clogged gutters. While working in the conditions to prevent infrastructure damage, the teams discovered a newborn kitten abandoned on the road.

Following the rescue, the kitten was taken into the care of an EOA employee who owns a nursing cat. This arrangement provides the newborn animal with a chance for survival by allowing it to be fed. The mission underscored the commitment of the district staff to both infrastructure maintenance and the welfare of local animals during the adverse weather event.
