Prominent academic Andreas M. Kazamias passes away at 99

Renowned Cypriot academic Andreas M. Kazamias passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at the age of 99. Born in Kalopanagiotis in 1927, he was a distinguished scholar in the fields of Comparative Pedagogy and Educational Policy, leaving a significant legacy in both international and Cypriot academia.

Kazamias studied History and English Literature in Britain and Education Sciences in the United States, earning a doctorate from Harvard University. He was long associated with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, focusing his research on the relationship between education, the state, and social development. In 2003, during the administration of Tassos Papadopoulos, he served as the president of the Educational Reform Committee in Cyprus.
