Cypriot entertainment venues see high local attendance despite decline in tourism
During the summer season of 2026, entertainment venues across Cyprus have experienced strong attendance from local residents, offsetting a significant downturn in international tourism. According to Neofytos Thrasyvoulou, President of the Pancyprian Federation of Entertainment Center Owners (OSIKA), local patronage remains high in coastal and mountainous regions, with specific growth recorded in the Paphos and Famagusta areas.
In contrast, tourist visits to these venues have declined by approximately 15% to 20% compared to the previous year. Thrasyvoulou attributed this drop to global geopolitical developments and evolving consumer habits among visitors. Specifically, tourists opting for low-cost accommodation often operate on strict vacation budgets, which limits their discretionary spending on dining and leisure activities at local establishments.
