Irish police chief warns of social media stunts following fatal head-on collision
Early on Sunday morning, a fatal head-on collision occurred on a motorway southwest of Dublin, resulting in the deaths of five youths. The victims were traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the highway when they struck another vehicle carrying three women and a child, all of whom sustained serious injuries. The secondary vehicle was reportedly en route to Dublin Airport at the time of the crash.
Following the incident, Irish Police Chief Justin Kelly issued a stern warning regarding a dangerous trend where young drivers operate vehicles against traffic on motorways to record footage for social media engagement. Kelly condemned this behavior, noting that the desire for online validation is a driving factor behind these high-risk stunts. This event marks the second such head-on incident near Dublin in recent weeks, prompting authorities to address the growing concern over road safety and the influence of social media trends on dangerous driving habits.
